Drops of Sunshine - Daily Bread

 

 

 

 

 

 

 It's easy to overlook the good when our minds are focused on the bad. When that happens, it's hard to actually see a break in our cloudy skies. That's why we need to be intentional with our thoughts on a daily basis. When there is no shortage of negativity, be more purposeful about seeing the good.

There are so many movies and books of varying genres that all share a common theme. Destiny. What is the answer to the purpose of it all? Why are we here? But it's not until we let go of the idea of "my purpose" and instead focus on God's that we can truly understand and embrace his desire for our lives.

As a kid, I can recall how gratifying it always was not to be the last one that was chosen when we'd choose teams for sport or a game. We would feel horrible if we weren't picked right away and would get even more nervous as the numbers dwindled down. If we were picked last, it always felt like we weren't really wanted, but the team was forced to accept us. We should be exceedingly glad that even if we are "last", we are never unwanted in God's eyes.

Our appetite craves what we feed it. If I binge sugary sweets every day, then every day, I'm going to want more sugary sweets. Likewise, if we aren't feeding our spirit the things of God, then the desire for it is less likely to surface. Be intentional every day about seeing God in your life and be even more determined to see his purpose for you. 

We can trust that the creator knows why he created his creation and what the purpose is. So if we find ourselves feeling uncertain about what path we should take, start by talking to God about it.

 I find it completely amazing and affirming to know that God is concerned about me. So much so, that even when others plot and plan evil toward me, I can confidently know that God's plan will always be far superior. It will always be for my God. That's why I need to trust him and rely on him every single moment.

 I have a coworker that says she can't move forward with any plan unless she has a Plan B. While that may work well for things we encounter in our professional lives, we should have a different philosophy with our spirit lives. Instead of pouring energy into "what if", know that there is no plan that catches God by surprise. He desires good for each of us and that should encourage us to also seek the same for ourselves.

When I was a child, I always wondered how you fight a war without any weapons. For sure, that was a losing battle. Mind you, as a child, the only weapons I could envision were physical. But just as the saying says you can't bring a knife to a gun fight, you can't bring physical weapons to a spiritual war. Furthermore, it takes spirit to understand the spiritual. In order to armor up and learn what I need to be equipped with, I need to rely on God.

 Many people wonder what their purpose is. Why are we here? What are we supposed to do with this life? That's a struggle believers face at times. What is this work that God has for us? What has helped me along the way is to stop focusing on me. But to instead make a conscious effort to be one that is focused on God's purpose, not my own. So if you are one that struggles in that area, that's a good place to start. Strengthen your relationship with God, get to know his voice. When you walk obediently and do what God instructs you to, you will fulfill that purpose.
